In September 2024, DeepFarm organized a summer school in İzmir to promote knowledge sharing on the use of artificial intelligence in agriculture. The program welcomed students and lecturers from partner countries in the Caribbean and Africa, offering both in-person and online participation.
The training covered the fundamentals of AI and machine learning, including sessions on linear and logistic regression, as well as practical Python labs focused on essential libraries and statistical concepts. All sessions were conducted in English.
Participants also received on-site training at the Olive Research Institute, where they were introduced to sensor systems installed in the field, drone-based image collection, and the flight planning process synchronized with the olive harvest cycle.
A total of 33 participants joined the program, gaining hands-on experience in AI tools and data collection. Feedback confirmed that the summer school successfully prepared attendees to contribute to the DeepFarm initiative.
